Albert Burstein
Albert Burstein is one of New Jersey’s most
respected attorneys and public servants. He has practiced law for
more than four decades. He is experienced in all aspects of estate
planning, commercial real estate and business contracts and
litigation relating to business matters.
Mr. Burstein counsels clients on estate planning
and probate matters including wills and trusts in complex estates.
By court appointment he has been Administrator of estates where
controversies have arisen among potential beneficiaries. He has
litigated matters involving undue influence and mental incapacity.
Mr. Burstein is also experienced in commercial
real estate matters and has represented developers in their
financing and leasing needs. This includes extensive and often
difficult negotiations with lenders and representatives of national
companies respecting leases.
Because of his many years in government, Mr.
Burstein is exceptionally knowledgeable about New Jersey statutes
and regulations as they affect businesses. He was a member of the
New Jersey General Assembly for 10 years and served a term as
Majority Leader. During his public service, he was instrumental in
the study and passage of legislation concerning education, probate
law reform, tax code changes, codes of ethics, capital budgeting and
planning, and employer-employee relations.
On October 13, 2006, Mr. Burstein received the
Daniel J. O'Hern Award, which is presented annually by the New
Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law. The award is given
to one attorney State-wide, who is a senior member of the Bar. Among
the standards for the Bar’s designation are outstanding character
and career achievement and a display of firm commitment to the
ideals of professionalism, as epitomized in the Commission's
Principles of Professionalism.
Mr. Burstein is a New Jersey Fellow of the
American Bar
Foundation, a member of the American Council of Trusts and
Estates Counsel, former Chair of the New Jersey Law Revision
Commission, former Chairman of the Bergen County District Ethics
Committee and a member of the New Jersey Law Journal editorial
board.
