Steven B. Harz
Steven B. Harz is recognized as one of New
Jersey's foremost experts in the field of labor and employment law.
His practice for the past 25 years has been concentrated in this
specialized area. Mr. Harz is a 1976 graduate of Delaware Law
School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of Law Review. He received his
undergraduate education at St. Peter's College, achieving a place on
the Dean's List for all semesters and graduating among the top ten
of his class. He also received a Master of Arts degree from New York
University. He is admitted to practice before the State and Federal
Courts of New York and New Jersey and represents clients in Federal
and State Courts throughout the United States. Mr. Harz has served
as in-house Labor Counsel for a Fortune 500 Company and as Adjunct
Professor of Labor Law at the Widener University Law School.
Currently, Mr. Harz heads up the Labor and
Employment Law Group of Herten Burstein. To this office he brings
vast experience representing clients in every facet of labor and
employment law. This includes matters involving Federal and State
employment discrimination laws, wrongful discharge and failure to
hire claims, matters relating to the National Labor Relations Act,
unfair labor practice matters, collective bargaining negotiations,
grievance arbitrations, and wage and hour laws before Federal and
State courts and administrative agencies. It also includes providing
general legal advice and counsel with respect to all areas regarding
the employment relationship, such as the development of employment
policies and manuals, and the establishment of employment practices
and preventive programs that minimize the potential for litigation.
The clients represented by Mr. Harz range in size from large
national and multi-national manufacturing companies and financial,
not-for-profit, and healthcare institutions, to small
entrepreneurial businesses.
Mr. Harz has served as a lecturer and panelist for
numerous programs in the area of labor and employment law and is
Chairman of the Bergen County Bar Association Labor and Employment
Law Section. He was also Mayor of Closter, New Jersey for the period
from 1994 through 1998 and now serves as a Member of the Closter,
New Jersey Board of Ethics.
