Herten Burstein has a number of lawyers in its Municipal & Government Affairs Group with many years of experience representing governmental entities, such as municipalities, planning boards, and zoning boards of adjustment. They use their knowledge of the day-to-day workings of government to advise and assist our non-governmental clients in their dealings with all levels of government, and in government-related litigation.

We represent our non-governmental clients on a broad spectrum of issues, such as government contracting, licensing and regulatory matters, and land use development applications. We also represent clients in court in their disputes with government, including property tax appeals and civil litigation of all types. We represent clients in land use matters, whether our client is the applicant or the objector to an application. One of the lawyers in the group earned the Dipomate in Local Government Law from Rutgers University and the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Lawyers. He also has experience representing numerous municipal governments and land use boards. He is the author of many articles on governmental law issues, has been involved in many reported cases involving governmental and constitutional claims, and for more than 20 years has been an adjunct professor at Montclair State University, most recently teaching in the University’s Department of Political Science and Law.

Another lawyer in the group has experience as a municipal lawyer and prosecutor, and as a municipal court judge. Another lawyer has experience advising municipal affordable housing commissions.
